Do movies, video games and other media outlets have an effect on people psychologically, in a nice or bad way? take for example the video game "manhunt 2" or the movie "hostel 2" which are both surrounded by controversy due to the violence. do such outlets have an effect on society/people? and if so how?

I feel they can desensitize young people to real life violence and sometimes make criminality seem glamorous. while most of us can watch a violent movie or play a video game and not have it affect the way we think, there are other people who watch violent movies and play violent games and want to be part of that world, adopting characteristics of screen anti-heroes. of course these people do not have to be young to be enticed by that way of life, but younger people are normally more impressionable.in my opinion though, the people who would commit a violent crime would probably do so anyway, i think while a movie or book or game can be an influence on the act, the catalyst is always some perversion within the person.also there are plenty of influences for the warped mind to embrace, from the religious texts of christianity and islam to modern music and the news, we can find influences for violence eextremelywhere.
