Classical music suggestions?

I am embarrassingly naive about classical music and am looking for some help! i love powerful, mainly piano based classical music but have no idea which composers to even begin looking at! can anyone give me any recommendations of pieces or composers?! thank you!
Answer
It is a bit like landing onto a new world and wondering where shall i start? well, you would be well inspired to start with a compilation that can easily find most music shop at a fairly cheap price. regardless of the quality of both the recroding and the interpretation of the pieces, the sole purpose and benefit will be an easy introduction to the world of classic music. from there, make a note of your favourite composers (so far) and get more of their work, preferably the most famous work. and so on. you could equally listen to radio classic and buy some classical monthly review as they often come with a cd. as for the piano, you should listen to liszt, a powerfull and passionate composer. chopin was said to express himself through his piano, and he left many great pieces. rachmaninov has written wondertfully for piano. in the other end of the spectrum, satie wrote some unconventional pieces for piano, simple, but some expressive. of course, do not forget the "popes" of classical the mozart and the other ones another suggestion is to watch amadeus, the pianist, the piano lesson, shine.
