Is there health screening for footy players?
There are too many players dying on the pitch with all the money the clubs have is there a screening process set up to avoid this. from what i read the main cause of these players dying is a heart disease called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy i know from expeireince that this is extremely easily detected by a simple echocardiogram (as my sons and husband have it) could this not be done for footy players surely a worthwhile excersise to save such tradgedys happening
Answer
Although many tests are done, clearly this has not been the case for this type of cardiac issue.whereas for many years the main and most common cause of chd has been mi type events, the wear and tear on a healthy heart when pushed to high limits has yet to be fully evaluated. considering the high financial investment clubs make on their players, you would have thought that such tests would be part of the initial suite.hope your husband and sons are ok!
