Can anybody explain rational choice theory int he social science context and in laymans terms?

Ok, layblokes trems, the first thing is to think of is rational. this means a considered choise, something that has benn looked at from all angles. the next is choise. this is basically yes or no. to do one thing or another.rational choise is the same as imformed choise. in the cold war russia and usa made a rational choise not to destroy each other (and the world), by fighting each other, even though this was not their desired choise it was the rational one.
