"muhammad pbuh knew 2 brothers, 1 staying in the mosque all day praying and asking god, the 2nd brother divided his time on work and praying, when he came across the praying bloke
in the mosque, he told him "your brother is closer to god than you"
because god wants you to rise in life as much as he wants you to worship him.
by doing work you are
actually worshipping god in a different way because you can elevate and help your family and community, become and independent person, work hence earn money and then donate zakaah (charity).
