Flying out of heathrow london, what can i take as hand luggage? can i take a laptop bag and a seperate bag for other stuff.would the laptop be classed as one piece of hand luggage and that would be it? whats the best way to get around it?

You can definitely take a laptop with you,although you may not be able to use it until the plane is cruising...
