I have completed my undergraduate degree in psychology and will next septemeber enrol on a masters in health psychology (stage 1) as i wish to pursue a career in health psychology. i understand that there are two routes in stage 2 of health psychology (the university route or the bps route), but what is actually involved when doing stage 2 of health psychology? could anybody plz explain in more detail what is involved - such as how i get involved in stage 2, and what i will be required to do, etc, to become a chartered health psychologist.
Answer
A good source of information (bps):http://www.bps.org.uk/careers/society_qual/qual_downlots$/health_download$.cfmone place to start might be the stage 2 faqs document here: http://www.bps.org.uk/document-download-area/document-download$.cfm?file_uuid=96b0d795-1143-dfd0-7e75-20465453fd05&ext=docor the qualification in health psychology (stage 2) candidate handbook: 2007-2008: http://www.bps.org.uk/downloadfile.cfm?file_uuid=40465d1b-1143-dfd0-7e31-274a1d5ea6e8&ext=pdfthe first step is to identify/find a suitable supervisor (2 yrs post-qualified chartered health psychologist - for a list see bps downlots link), then apply/enrol, and undertake planned supervised practice to cover the core competencies required for stage 2 – see stage 2 handbook link for more details. (course staff from your stage 1 course will also be able to provide you with more information.)
