Answer
Did your friend have insurance on the car in his name? if he did lie, tell the court that you believed that his insurance covered you as well (if he had fully comp insurance - check it out as it is possible it will cover any driver for third party insurance automatically), grovel, plead and beg. the points are not automatic and the judge can instead impose a fine in lou of the points - this may cost you a few hundred quid, but then you have to decide how much your license is worth to you. speak to your solicitor about this, explain that you need the car for work (to get too and from your job ect) and that if you lose you licence it will have a direct impact on your living. remember to be contrite and sorry of the offence, beg and grovel a little bit, you might get away with it.
