Why is country music so christian, and are there any non-white country artists out there?

the music, but as an atheist i find it frustrating when they keep making references to god, church, jesus etc. why is christianity such a dominant theme in this genre?

Country music is primarily the music of the south, and the culture in the south is heavily influenced by christianity, so making that tradition was fairly natural. it is the same reason why bluegrass music also has so blokey religious references. also, cowboy troy is an african-american country artist, though his music is not completely country persay.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/cowboy_troy
