Car insurance questions?

Ok so im a bit confused about car insurance! if i claimed on my insurance because say i had a crack on my windscreen and it want my fault, would that mean i lose my no claims? also, if i was involved in an accident that wasnt my fault, and the other person refused to give their insurance details, would i just ring my insurance company with their car reg? what if i lost the claim? im very confused about all this! uk only !
Answer
Unless you have protected your no claims bonus (additional cost when signing up) you will lose your bonus if you claim irregardless of fault. (if there is criminal activity involved you can claim through criminal compensation board so need not lose bonus) check your excess too - most insurance policies will only pay part of a claim - usually you will be expected to meet the first £x of a claim. so windscreens are rarely claimed for because you would receive only a fraction of the replacement costs. some companies do have a separate windscreen cover allowing you to fix glass without losing no claim. also a lot depends on how severe the crack is and where its positioned. if it is not in the drivers line of vision you do not need to replace glass. go to halfords they sell a product that removes air from chips and small cracks and seals the site - this prevents it from spreading. good luck!
