As mental health professionals, part of our work is preventative, than tertiary. the psychological sequalae of childhood sexual abuse is often profound, far reaching, and intractable. if we can prevent it from occurring (or lessen the severity by, for example, ordering an ivestigation of a suspected incident of abuse early on), then we may have had a hand in preventing the future (as in into adulthood) mental anguish of not just the one, but perhaps many children.
