Windows media player and itunes takes all my music from my computer into their own stores and to free up space i need to transfer all my music onto an external hard drive. how do i get the software on my pc to form it is library from the music on the external hard drive?? the hard drive will probably stay plugged in all the time. the software i use is windows media player and itunes.

copy the folders over to the external drive and then change the settings in both media players to look at those locations, if you move the folders than copy them, when you open either one of the programs it will prompt you that files have been moved and then you can point it to the right locations.
