Digital radio?
With the coming of the digital changeover, what will happen about the radios in cars? will we have to buy new radios or will there be a way of converting our existing radios?ray p if you check the bbc site they do say that in time the fm radio service will also be discontinued.
Answer
Assuming fm goes away, they can still hook up to the existing radio. you see it today with ipods. even the oldest factory radio can have a ipod added throught the antenna cable, new digital radio would be the same way. a external box, that plugs into the antenna cable...and that is the worste case, many factory radios now have a aux port in the back that is often times never utilized. generally put there to control a cd changer. personally i would welcome a new radio format. it is old technology thats been arouind for years, hd radio is a nice start, i also have siruis radio and i enjoy that as well.. i would welcome with open arms any additional or enhancements to the current radio methodologies. also i believe we will see hard drives become a staple in car audio. it will work much like tivo does for tv. additionally i see there being a 10 sec delay from when the source was recieved to when it is actually played, eliminating drop out of the digital source. and also the hard drive will provide the ability to rewind a song you like or pause a song while going threw the drive through. the technology is already there, it just need implimented.
