Hd tv breaking up.?

I have an orion flat screen digital tv hd ready with built in freeview lcd which i bought from currys a month ago. before i take it back could you help me? the television keeps breaking up not only on digital channels but also on nicam. it is wall mounted on one wall and the ariel is on the opposite wall with the wiring under the carpet. there is no furniture near the ariel outlet and it was working fine when i had my other tv in the same place as the flat screen. (although not wall mounted) should i take it back or get an ariel booster or is it because not everyone has gone digital yet? i know the weather makes some difference but this is happening all the time. thanks for your answer.
Answer
It has nothing whatsoever to with atmospherics. there are any number of reasons why it could be breaking up but the bottom line is poor signal. digital reception has a thresh hold ( "cut off point" if you like). if the signal falls below this cut off point, which often happens in the evening when temperatures drop, the picture will freeze or break into small squares, or like a mosaic pattern.often a simple poor connection is the cause. make sure that the lead from gthe aerial socket across the room is one, unbroken cable, not joioned, and is able to deal with digital frequencies ( if it is thinner than a pencil then it is unlikely to). it is best to use a single length of lead, preferably benchmarked by the cai (confederation for aerial industries) with nice connectors, made off properly. the aerail socket may need attention, or the aerial iteslef may not be able to receive digital frequencies adequately. or it may need re-aligning.a booster may help, not before you have tried the obvious things first.call a local ( cai registered) aerial installer, he may well be able to sort you out at a lower cost than you fear.
