Putting a cheque in the bank?
How does it take several days for a cheque to go in the bank? thought by now they would have something so the cash would go straight in to the account!

Almost all banks use electronic transfer now. the long delay is
1) a holdover from when the checks actually had to be transferred
and
2) a way for them to use your money , free of charge, for a fee extra days
