A direct debit i cancelled suddenly appeared while i was checking my latest bank statement .?

It was a loan account that i had canceld after repayment of the outstanding figure,after speaking to the bank they explained that they would set up an indemnaty claim and that i should see the funds returned to my account within 48 hours, how does this work?
