Go to the consumer action group forums, address below, and ask for help there. they have a lot of people with nice legal knowledge who can help you. im sure you`ll get a number of answers that would help you out.my own advice would be not to talk to them at all over the phone (will stop the rudeness!) and only communicate by letter. its much better if you have ething in writing.you can also do a subject access request under the data protection act to get details of the alleged debt. if they cannot send the original credit agreement, then after 30 days they cannot collect the debt. they are also not allowed to harass you while a debt is in dispute.i had the same thing happen to me, and i made the subject access request to see a copy of the original credit agreement behind the supposed debt. the debt collectors wrote back and said they would pass the details on to the people they were persuing the debt for, and would put the account on hold in the mean time. that was the last i ever heard about it!
