Got compaq laptop and cannot read a mini-sized installation cd. can anyone help this cyber chimp many thanks?

Does the cd drive have an indentation in it is tray that the mini ( 8cm ) disc fits into?if not, this could be why.another reason, are you putting the disc in the right way up?usually label / printed side up.
