I wonder if anybody could help - i have the above laptop and have bent the connection pin on the laptop where the battery charger gets plugged in - 1 - is it easy to buy the part and fit it myself or - as a friend told me - that sometimes that part is fixed to the motherboard and therefore its a bigger job than i anticipated.

Yes... that is going to be a difficult thing to get replaced. because laptops are so compact, the hardware is not designed to be upgraded or replaced very easily at all. call packard bell.
