Whos nice at maths? jo and bernie decide to paint the inside of their garage as a diy project. individually, j

Heres the question: jo and bernie decide to paint the inside of their garage as a diy project. individually, jo could paint it in 4 hours and bernie in 6 hours. how long would it take (in hours and minutes) to complete if both of them start at the same time and work on seperate sections at the same time? please show working out so i know how u done it. thanks lol jizzi if ur saying 5 hours and chelle is saying 3h45m which one would i go with? its not as simple as it looks because they finish at the same time, how can it take 5 hours if jo could do the whole garage in 4 hours, this time he has "help" and it takes an extra hour? i think somebody else needs extra maths lessons. . yer black_rudd, i got 2 hours and 24 minutes too. i think our answer is correct, but it is a confusing quesiton though! lol. thanks answer: the method i used was . jo can paint 3/5 of the garage while bernie would have complete 2/5. so total time taken if both work together is (240+360)*((3/5)*(2/5)) = 144 minutes = 2.4 hours = 2 hours 24 minutes.
Answer
I think it like this, but its been a long time since i was in school. get common denominator of 12 therefore jo would paint 3 garages in 12 hours 3/12 therefore bernie would paint 2 garages in 12 hours 2/12 3/12 + 2/12=5/12( 5 garges together in 12 hours) therefore devide 12 by 5= 2 2/5 hours( to get how long to do 1 garage together) since 2/5ths of an hour is 24min therefore the answer is =2 hours 24 min hope this helps, also the person who answered above should spen less time on the net and more in school, not you. nice luck. update: yeah your right, you did it slightly different from me but it is correct. nice stuff, well done
