If we are saying " antique pine colouring", not realy old, then remove the finish varnish, some of the smaller dents can be removed with a steam iron & wet cloth (but not your best iron!). see how it goes, then sand with progressivly finer paper. as to staining / revarnishing, the darker colour of older pine is caused by the sap rising, so it will darken with time anyway.
