I have a sony vaio laptop and it is really noisy now when i am using it. could it be the fan?

And if it is the fan, how easy is it to repair and will it be economical to repair it. the laptop sounds like it is ready for take off when i am using it and it drives me nuts!model is pcg 6c1m. advice desperately needed. thanks
