Why is my laptop fan continually running?
My laptop fan funs continually when the power lead is connected, but stops when the laptop runs on battery power. also, the battery now discharges quickly. i have already restored the laptop to factory settings and recover my files, but to no effect. any help would be appreciated.
Answer
Ok as previously said, laptops are notourious for generating heat, so the fans will keep going to keep you laptop cool.the reason the laptop is warmer when you are connected to the mains power is beacuase your laptop will run at full speed which will generate heat, the block at the mddle of your power conenctor will get warm as is converting the power to what your laptop uses. when the laptop is using battery power the screen will be not as bright, the processor tends to slow down this is all to save power, and will also generate less heat. if you also dont have enought of a gap around the laptop or in a dusty area, it wont be dispercing the heat as well that will cause your laptop to be hotter and also would require the fan to be jogging.as for the battery, it contains chemicals which degrade over a period of time, newer batteries dont suffer from the memory effect as much as usual, but they also have to be cared for.so i would allow them to discharge more often, if your using it on the mains you could take your battery out and store it. they recommend normaly around 40% charge in a cool dark place, this storing like this wont degrade your battery. also even if your look after your batter extreamilly well it will only generally last around 2 years anyway
