Would extra memory help stop my toshiba laptop overheating?
I have an old toshiba laptop a30, the processor gets hot and it closes itself down, only when it cools can it be restarted, i have improved things by using an external fan mat.
what i was wondering was, if i were to install more memory would this then put less demand on the processor therfore it would not get as hot?
i have cleaned the heat sink and fan before this did not work. 2 yearsago i did some searching on the net and i found that his problem was common on toshiba laptops (they may have sorted thisproblem out now as i said this was about 2 years ago)
Answer
No it would make the problem worse by heating up ething faster. you need to install a new fan to the laptop. the larger fans cool down your pc faster and the rpm is the speed, fans that work at faster speeds are better. to find out how well the fan works look at the air volume, the higher the number the better, you want a quiet fan as well so a lower noise is better. also consider getting more than one fan in your laptop. get a computer company to install the fan, they will also give you advice on fans to fit and may sell them to you. i did a search and found some computer maintainance companies in the uk. http://www.yell.com/ucs/ucssearchaction.do?scrambleseed=73589095&keywords=computer&companyname=&location=united+kingdom&searchtype=advance&broaderlocation=&clarifyindex=0&clarifyoptions=computer+maintenance&ooa=&m=0&ssm=0&rad=&lcoption32=computer+maintenanceyou can buy fans on this website but get somebody to look at your pc to advise on fans.http://www.quietpc.com/gb-en-gbp/products/casefans?gclid=coefmaa-t5ecfqraaaodjrd5cw
