I currently have 246mb of memory i would like to know is, if i added 1gb of memory how much memory would that give me. i know that i can only go up to 2gb. and i have one empty slot, so i think if i get 1gb that be best.but in total how much memory would i actually have.

You have 512mb of memory but your graphics card is using the balance of the memory, adding 1gb(1024mb) will give you 1536 mb or 1270mb after your graphics card takes its allowed memory. instead of listening to all the so called computer experts, do this, use this link and run the crucial scanner, it will tell you what you have and what you can upgrade to, it will give you all upgrade options and tell you if you need matching memory chips or not, and any other info you may need to know, i would suggest buying a 2gb kit and using them and removing the current memory , because the new 2gb kit will be faster and you will see a huge difference in your computer performance.
