Laptop memory?

If i increase the memory on my laptop to the maximum the motherboard will handle (768mb - its an old cheap machine) will that make games run faster and smoother if you disregard the graphics card, i cant upgrade that on my machine. am i right in understand ing that its not the processor speed that affects perfoman ce. it will be an increase of 256mb. and no taking the piss about my lack of computer knowledge.
Answer
This is the problem with many laptops today, the gfx card are shared memory, so if you do have an old one, its more than likely to have low memory and little expansion room in order to play todays games.mind you, if you add 256bm to make 512mb mem after taking the gfx card assumed to be 256mb, games should run fine and be abit smoother, but memory performance needs to be taken into account along side a decent processor (anything over 2ghz ) to get nice gaming performance.go to crucial website as mentioned above and that will help you choose what memory u need. installation should be easy peasy too, remove the cover from underneath your lappy which houses the memory stick and away ya go.
