Around 1900 the village of llanwyddyn was drowned under lake vyrnwy. can i find a map of the lost village?
Lake vyrnwy was built to supply the city of liverpool with drinking water. the village was in the way and had to go! under drought conditions you can still see some of the remaining structures. but where are they relative to the lakes shoreline? lake vyrnwy is in the county of powys in wales. it is
the largest lake in wales.
Answer
The ordnance survey started before the construction of lake vyrnwy so you should be able to get a pre 1900 map. try the main public library for the area. we were able to get large scale os maps of an area of scotland pre-1900 from the archives of the public library in inverness. the maps are on microfiche and the librarian printed out the sections we wanted. (this was a while ago) the archive may now be available on line depending on the local authority, but you would probably have to join the library, and get a pin number to access it.
