In regards to meetings, what is the difference between apologies and cancellations?
For example, if i am invited to a meeting next week that i cannot attend, what is the difference between ringing the secretary to cancel or ringing to send apologies? is it to do with the day? are apologies only sent on the day of the meeting?

With apologies, you send or call someone before the meeting to state that due to some unavoidable circumstances you will not be able to make it. with cancellation, is where the meeting you had called for, you decide that it will not happen without reference to a further date when it could happen.
