I have reported the offence to the police and have a case number. unfortunately, my travel insurance expired last october. i have tried contacting my credit card provider to see if it will cover me but to no avail. any help or advice on this matter would be great.

Check if you have all risks cover on your house insurance you should be able to claim through them, and they may give you free travel on that policy. give it a go
