Credit card companies require that you decline any coverage offered by car rental companies in order for the credit card company to cover you. by irish law, car rental companies are required to provide (and charge) you for certain types of coverage. for example, you cannot decline third party liability coverage when renting a car. also, when an irish rental company quotes you a price, the price must include collision and theft insurance. if you do not want these last two coverages, you must explicitly decline the coverage. these requirements are different than most other european countries.
